About Our Organization
This free site is offered to people with prediabetes to help them change the trajectory of their health before they develop type 2 diabetes or other health complications.
This site supplies evidence-based information and resources to inspire and empower individuals and their families to improve their metabolic health. It also aims to inform the healthcare providers who are interested in supporting them.

The site is a partnership between the Institute for Personalized Therapeutic Nutrition (IPTN) and the Institute for Health System Transformation and Sustainability (IHSTS). While both organizations are located in British Columbia, the aim is to improve the health and lives of anyone in the world who finds this site.
The Toll of Type 2 Diabetes
In recent years, the incidence of type 2 diabetes in Canada, and the world, has been steadily increasing, with no signs of improvement.

Every day in Canada, about 550 people are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. This puts them at higher risk of heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, blindness, non-healing wounds, limb amputations, and cognitive decline such as Alzheimer’s disease.

The toll of type 2 diabetes across Canada is enormous, affecting an estimated 5.7 million Canadians, and climbing, and costing the health system an estimated $38.5 billion annually.

Add in those with prediabetes, and the number of people on the diabetes path is 11.7 million people. That is 6 million people with prediabetes who are just starting down that road.
Prediabetes is an Opportunity to Change Course
But think of it this way: a prediabetes diagnosis is not a straight track to the destination of type 2 diabetes.

Rather, it is a lucky warning to change course now to avoid future ill health. It is a chance to make changes to your life, especially your eating patterns, to change directions, and to forge a new path to better health.

Often the symptoms of prediabetes, or its diagnosis, precedes full-blown type 2 diabetes by decades. During this time the body’s metabolic changes are highly reversible and most of the health damage has not yet occurred.

This website aims to help motivate, empower, and inspire people with prediabetes to use this time to change their path and head off in the direction of improved health and wellbeing.
